Proof of Identification

 

South African Citizen

  • A valid South African issued green bar-coded identity document.

If not available

  • A valid South African driver's licence* or
  • A valid South African passport*
* subject to approval by GT247.com, and must be accompanied by an affidavit confirming why Green bar-coded ID cannot be provided

Foreign National

  • Valid passport bearing passport number and photograph
  • Second means of verification i.e. drivers license
  • Asylum seekers / refugees must submit a valid passport / unexpired section 22 or section 24 permit as well as a valid Maroon refugee identity document.

Proof of Physical Residential Address

Document which must reflect name/initials and surname, physical address or property descriptions (i.e. erf/stand numbers) and must be less than 3 months old.

Here is a list of valid FICA documents that can be used to verify physical residential address:

  • A utility bill, such as water, electricity or rates (less than 3 months) We may accept a utility bill that are addressed to a post box number if it shows your name, erf/stand number, township and suburb
  • A bank statement or financial statement from a financial institution (less than 3 months old)
  • A copy of a signed lease agreement (by both parties), (less than 1 year old)
  • A municipal rates and taxes invoice (less than 3 months old)
  • A mortgage statement from another financial institution, (less than 6 months old)
  • A telephone account, ie. a land–line or cellphone account (less than 3 months old)
  • An official tax return/tax assessment (less than 1 year old)
  • Official correspondence from the South African Revenue Services ("SARS") (less than 3 months old)
  • A recent life insurance policy issued by an insurance company
  • Correspondence from a body corporate or share– block association (less than 3 months old)
  • A valid television license document
  • A recent short–term insurance policy document or a short–term insurance renewal letter (less than 1 year old)
  • A retail account statement/invoice (less than 3 months old)
  • Where the person live in any type of residence (eg. hostel/barracks) a letter from the administration department of such residence on an official letterhead

Proof of Bank Account

  • A bank statement or cancelled cheque (not older than 3 months) that reflects your name and account number.
  • Foreign Nationals must be a valid South African Account Holder.

Proof of Tax Reference Number

  • Official SARS documentation showing the individuals Name and Surname and Income Tax number. This is only applicable to individuals opening a GTi (Global Trader International) account.

Cohabitant or spouse of a homeowner

  • It may be that you live with another person, such as a spouse or life partner, and your name is not reflected on any of the documents required. Proof of the relationship between you and that person must be provided together with a relevant verification document reflecting the homeowner's name and the residential address.
  • In the case of a husband and wife, a marriage certificate is an acceptable document to prove the relationship between the co-habitants.
  • In all other cases, a written affidavit is required from the co-habitant, homeowner, parent or employer, please complete the following affidavit template.

Students

  • If you are a student residing at a student residence, hostel or boarding house and are unable to provide proof from the homeowner, a written statement from the educational institution or the residence, hostel or boarding house confirming your residence at the physical address of such residence is acceptable, please complete the following affidavit template.

  • Please note that in accordance with FICA we are required to verify the identity of all individuals . We therefore require; identity document, physical residential address confirmation and contact details of each member, Persons authorised to act and persons holding more than 25% of the voting rights in the CC.

Additional verification required for a Close Corporation

  • Founding statement and Certificate of Incorporation (CK1) or CIPRO certificate.
  • Amended Founding Statement (CK2), if applicable or CIPRO certificate.
  • CKI or CIPRO certificate.
  • Authority to act/members resolution; this must be placed on a company letterhead.
  • Proof of physical business address.
  • proof of bank account.
  • Official SARS documentation showing the CC name and income tax number.
  • Proof of VAT number (if applicable).

  • Certificate of Incorporation (CM1) or CIPRO certificate / Memorandum of Incorporation CoR 15.1 or CIPC certificate.
  • Notice of Registered Office and Postal Address (CM22) or CIPRO certificate / Notice of Change of Registered Address CoR 21 or CPIC certificate.
  • Register of Directors CM29 or CIPRO certificate / Notice of change of Company Directors CoR 39.
  • Authority to act / directors resolution; this must be placed on a company letterhead.
  • Proof of physical business address.
  • Proof of bank account.
  • Official SARS documentation showing the CC name and income tax number.
  • Proof of VAT number (if applicable).

  • Authority to act; letter of authority from the Master of the High Court and Trustees resolution.
  • Proof of registered address of Master of High Court (stamp on letter of authority).
  • Proof of bank account.
  • Official SARS documentation showing the Trust Name and Income Tax number.
